2017 TEDxSalem

First he brought Illu­mi­na­tion to life. Next he showed his Mox­ie. Last year, he was Fear­less. This year, Salem Graph­ic Design­er Von Glitsch­ka reveals Rev­o­lu­tions.

Glitsch­ka cre­at­ed the let­ters in the TEDxSalem logo from scratch. He want­ed it to be dis­tinct­ly dif­fer­ent, a nod to the Rev­o­lu­tions theme. When he cre­at­ed the R, he saw an indi­vid­ual fig­ure emerge.

If you look close­ly, you can see the legs, body and the star or head on top.

“It rep­re­sents the indi­vid­ual that is ready to cause his own cre­ative rev­o­lu­tion or break through in his own life,” he said.

The over­all design has a pro­pa­gan­da feel, he said, which was inten­tion­al. The R is back­wards, also inten­tion­al.

 

“A rev­o­lu­tion is about turn­ing things around,” he said, “they don’t like the direc­tion things are going so they’re revers­ing course.”

Being a TEDxSalem part­ner has been rev­o­lu­tion­ary for Glitsch­ka. He devel­oped a hand-paint­ed illus­tra­tion style for last year’s Fear­less logo, a look that he con­tin­ues to use today for clients includ­ing Adobe.

“That actu­al­ly led to dis­cov­er­ing a new illus­tra­tion style for me,” he said.

Rev­o­lu­tions. It’s not just a theme, it’s what we do at TEDxSalem. T‑shirts with this year’s logo will be on sale at TEDxSalem on Jan. 7.

Von Glitsch­ka is the cre­ative direc­tor and own­er of Glitsch­ka Stu­dios, a small bou­tique design firm in Salem.
